Why Uganda Is Such A Great Safari Destination

When you decide to visit Africa, Uganda is one of those beautiful safari destinations that you should visit. Indeed, most of the travel blogs and travel guides will mention it among their bucket list, the reason being; it is actually worth the visit. There are a lot of reasons as to why you should visit and this blog post highlights just a few of them that you might already know and some you possibly don’t know.

1 – Mountain Gorillas

I would say Uganda is typically known for the huge population of mountain gorillas that live in its forests of Mgahinga and Bwindi. In the year 2012, Uganda announced an estimate of over four hundred mountain gorillas, which is more than half the remaining total population of mountain gorillas all over the world. Gorilla Trekking is one of the main Uganda tourist attractions and the reason why hundreds of tourists flock the country annually to see mountain gorillas. Uganda’s mountain gorillas can be found in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Forest National Park.

2 – Wildlife

Uganda is extremely rich in wildlife and is among the countries that harbour the five big game animals. The perfect spots for viewing wildlife in Safari to Uganda are Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, and Kidepo Valley National Park. The five big game animals can be found in Murchison Falls National Park. A wildlife viewing experience in African Safari Trips is absolutely worth the time and money and will leave pleasant memories in your mind.

3 – Lake Bunyonyi

Believed to be the 2nd deepest lake in the continent of Africa, Lake Bunyonyi lies in the southwestern part of Uganda close to the Rwandan border. At around 1,962 meters above sea level, Lake Bunyonyi enjoys moderate temperatures all year round, and the magical lake is typically cool in both the morning and evening hours. Most of the travellers visit Lake Bunyonyi after gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

4 – Source of the Nile

River Nile is generally known as the longest river in the world with its source beginning right from Jinja – Uganda. The word “Nile” is a Greek word that means valley. The river starts from Jinja Uganda (central Uganda) and flows through Sudan & Egypt pouring into the eastern Mediterranean Sea. River Nile is around 6600 kilometres long and passes through 3 countries (South Sudan, Sudan & Egypt), however, is mostly centred to Egypt and Uganda.

5 – Murchison Falls

Murchison Falls, also known as the Kabalega Falls, is a waterfall that lies between Lake Albert and Lake Kyoga on River Nile. Sir Samuel Bar and wife, Florence Baker, were the first to find this explosive waterfall. Sir Baker, who was a European explorer, named this waterfall after Sir Roderick Murchison, president of the Royal Geographical Society by then. The waterfalls are the foundation of Murchison Falls National Park

6. Rwenzori Mountains

The Rwenzori Mountains have long been dubbed the mountains of the moon, calling to life the ethereal beauty of the snow-capped peaks rising, luminescent, in the moonlight. There is profound power in the verdant flora that sprouts from the base to top of this mountain range. Embrace this elemental journey as a return to a pristine wilderness that exists outside of time.
