But like any city or international destination, we advise you to exercise basic caution when in a new area and to listen to your guide at all times, especially when in the bush and around animals. The Likelihood of Seeing Gorillas is Extremely High
Gorillas are only present in two places in the world — the Virunga Mountains that cross Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forrest in Uganda. In fact, Uganda holds over 60% of the total mountain gorillas left in the world. The animals live in extremely remote locations, so a team of rangers will go out in the early morning to locate the Gorillas before your trek. Your guide will then lead you to the exact spot to meet them. In the off chance that they have moved to a different location, you will be given an opportunity to track to another site after lunch to find them. The rangers and your guide will do everything they can to ensure you see them during your visit.

Gorillas are familiar with humans, but you should keep a safe distance from them at all times. Touching and approaching the Gorillas is not be permitted as they are highly susceptible to diseases and their own animal nature — these are wild animals, after all. It’s important to listen to your guide at all times.
You Should Come Prepared for the Weather
Rain can be unpredictable in Uganda, and the African sun can be quite intense, so it’s essential to protect yourself at all times. We recommend packing a rain jacket, sunscreen and insect repellent for your trip. A long shirt and hiking boots with long socks to tuck into your pants are necessary to protect your skin from any branches or insects. And because you will be climbing and moving throughout challenging terrain, we also suggest packing a pair of gloves for your trek.
You Need an Experienced Tour Guide
Although you can purchase the permit per person per day and travel independently, it is highly recommended to use an experienced tour guide who can handle the licenses, arrange comfortable lodging, and provide all the transportation for you. Gorilla trekking can also be quite strenuous, which is why using a trained expert is the safest and most convenient option.
