Your Ticket to the Empire of Apes in Uganda

Mountain gorillas are mythical creatures that only survive in the wild, so trekking to see them is your only shot at catching a glimpse of these beautiful primates. With fewer than 900 mountain gorillas still in existence today, gorilla trekking provides an opportunity to observe our closest relatives in their natural environment. To find them you need to head to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and explore deep into the brush. Fortunately, you don’t have to explore on your own – we offer a 9-day expedition that’s packed with adventure and intrigue! You’ll experience eight days and seven nights that will bring you up close and personal with rare and magical species like the mountain gorilla, wild chimpanzees, climbing lions, hippos, crocodiles and many more.

Take a closer look below at your ticket to the Empire of Apes in Uganda and the magic that it has to offer.

The Kibale Forest National Park

Your journey starts in Entebbe where you’ll be kindly welcomed by your safari guide/driver and brought to your accommodation for a good night’s rest. The next morning the real adventure begins as you head towards the Kibale National Park. On route, you’ll stop in Fort Portugal, a delightful town in the shadow of the “Mountains of the Moon.” You’ll get time to explore the town, take in the local culture and visit the crater lakes before arriving at Kibale National Park for a night’s rest in your safari lodge.

Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale

Your next day will be filled with adventure as you head out into the Kibale Forest. This area hosts the highest density of primates in all of Africa. Keep your eyes peeled for chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, the endangered red colobus monkey, and other rare primates who live in the area. After a memorable morning, you’ll enjoy lunch and then set out to the Bigodi Wetland Swamp, a treasured area that offers the perfect landscape for bird watching.

Exploring the Queen Elizabeth National Park

Day 4 is an animal lover’s dream. You’ll take a brief tour at the spectacular Lake Nkuruba, where you’ll find stunning views of the vibrant crater lakes en route to the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Once you arrive at the famous park named after Queen Elizabeth herself, you’ll take an evening game drive to explore the area’s many native species such as buffalo, elephants, warthogs, among other beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.

Wildlife Spotting and Boat Cruise

We don’t waste any time on day 5! You’ll start off the morning with a beautiful game drive that provides ample opportunity for wildlife sightings in the savannah. Then you’ll jump on a boat to take a mesmerizing cruise along the Kazinga channel that’s home to hippos, crocodiles, reptiles, and rare bird species. After winding down, you’ll finish off the day with a drive over to the crater lakes to take in another captivating view of the area before returning back to camp.

Mountain Trekking in the Impenetrable Forest

On day 6, you’ll depart for the beautiful Queen Elizabeth National Park and head out to see the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha – a rare find. Then you’ll hop in to for a drive to Bwindi National Park where the tour will head into the jungle to find the gentle gorillas. Our experienced tracker will lead us to a family of mountain gorillas to watch and observe. You’ll get an up-close and personal so you can really take in this once in a lifetime opportunity. After the day is said and done, you’ll receive a gorilla trekking certificate and visit a local community to explore more of the Ugandan culture. We’ll finally wind down the trip with a journey back through Mbarara and a stop at the equator for pictures and shopping.

There are few places in the world where you can encounter these gorgeous primates in their natural habitat. This makes gorilla trekking expeditions highly desirable. However, only a limited number of daily viewings are allowed per day which makes Gorilla trekking an experience that only a few get to enjoy! If you’re interested in getting a chance at seeing these extraordinary and critically endangered species, check the available dates and book soon to reserve a spot to avoid disappointment!
